The rain, the winter spring has made us fade away
I really wonder how you feel on these nights so alone
School in the morning, usher duty in the afternoon and training. Indeed a tiring Friday, I should be sleeping at home! :P But it's not any other Friday, it's time for the youths to showcase their talents! A great way to end the school week, TGIF! :D Despite only reaching Jurong West at 8pm, I still managed to catch all the performances. I'm really excited to see all the wonderful City Harvestors glorifying God in their own ways! (:
First off, we started off with Praise and Worship.
Here are the emcees for the night!
YOUR BEST SHOT
Finally, out of so many who participated, here are the 10 finalists for YBS! It is one of the highlights for Emerge. Through countless practices and rehearsals, all of them managed to put up an awestruck performance for us. It must be really hard for the judges to pick out the top 6! ;) I didn't manage to video much as it is not enough for my camera to store, but I managed to video 4 out of the 10 performances! By the way, pardon me for some of the bad quality pictures. Some are blur as the performers were moving a lot hahaha. Anyway, enjoy! (:
1. DF (ZY zone)
Managed to capture the last 30 seconds of the performance. :P
I really have to agree, it's really electrifying! With all their popping and locking, plus their shimmery metallic costumes, (Y)! The part after they took out their shades was really funny! An amazing choreo! (:
2. Abigail Yeo (AZ zone)
She sang one of the Chinese songs I know - 我不是你想象那么勇敢, by 梁文音. She performed during one of the services for Camp UNItE, and now she is standing here again! I have to say, her voice is really amazing. She stood on stage confidently and moved the crowd with her voice and passion. Lastly, she's in the same district as me, AZ District! (:
3. Yap Han Ning and Ryan Wong (AZ zone)
Yet another 2 from AZ District! (: Both of them sang emotionally and their voices really matches each other! So much for the 7 years in the singing industry. (: The keyboardist played so well!
4. Barely Acoustic (IC, KEN, KS zones)
The only female singer, cool guitarists, a wonderful pianist and an awesome drummer makes up the band! It was a great mash-up of Payphone and Pumped Up Kicks, two of my favourite songs currently. When they sang Pumped Up Kicks, they engaged us by telling the audience to sing along with them too! (:
5. Kenneth Boey (DD zone)
Canon on an electric guitar, pretty impressive! Lots of people can play canon on a piano, but it takes lots of skills and patience to play it on an electric guitar! He looks really cool, can be compared to Sungha Jung. (:
6. Terence (JS zone)
"Are you ready to emerge?" This is how he started off, using a very techno voice (?) (I'm not sure how to describe that) Terence engages the audience by making us clap along. He can even make clapping sounds! His beatboxing performance was really a blast! (:
7. Neil Christopher and Paul Nelson (ET zone)
Their supporters even prepared banners, WOAH!
Brothers singing together, with one of them playing the guitar. It reminds me of Jayesslee, LOL! Their performance entertained the whole crowd, especially with their harmonizing of voices! They did a mash-up of Coming Home, Moves Like Jagger and Super Bass. Good choices of songs they have there! ;) I remembered when one of them was rapping Super Bass, they changed the lyrics to "I really got a thing for City Harvest girls." Woohoo! :D Their performance was really cute!
8. Rainie Pang and Eugene (DD Zone)
Latin dance! *whistles* Honestly, I'm really amazed by how these dancers can dance with heels. O: The shades of purple are really pretty! They were filled with energy and enthusiasm throughout. Well done! (:
9. Music in Motion (LEI zone)
If you've attended last year's Emerge, you would have heard of the name, Music in Motion. Last year, they were involved in Centre Stage, where they have to put up a drama for Emerge. Their performance is really unique - singing and dancing were involved. Vivien and Sherman sang Safe and Sound while the 4 dancers put up a contemporary dance to it. Their movements were swift and graceful. I would love to dance like them! (: Though they had to change the guitar at the very last min, it was indeed an excellent performance!
10. MJ Zone Girl Band (MJ zone)
Last but not least, the long awaited performance by MJ Zone Girl Band! Their entry video gained so many views in such a short period of time! You've got to admit, they have strong vocals, plus an accompanying guitarist and the other one playing the cajon! (Y) Their performance was beautiful and mind-blowing! They did a mash-up on a few songs - We Found Love, Part Of Me, Titanium and some others. What an awesome stage presence! (:
TOP 6 FINALISTS
1. Abigail Yeo (AZ zone)
2. Barely Acoustic (IC, KEN, KS zones)
3. Terence (JS zone)
4. Neil and Paul (ET zone)
5. Rainie Pang and Eugene (DD zone)
6. MJ Zone Girl Band (MJ zone)
Congratulations! Watch for their performances this week! :D
PREACHING CHALLENGE
The 4 finalists were given a topic, "Discourage", and given 7 min to preach about it. Though they had prepared different sermons, one common thing would be sharing about Romans 8:31. "If God is for us, who can be against us?"
1. Shirley (YK zone)
Do Not Be Discouraged. We must remain in fellowship. She also shared about focus bringing power, and even brought a magnifying glass for her sermon! We must focus on the promises on God. She engages the audience and was a very strong speaker!
2. John (MJ zone)
He is a funny guy! (: He demonstrated some of his examples to us, like singing emo Chinese songs! He also shared about staying committed to God and trusting Him. You cannot see His hands, but you can feel His heart. I remembered him sharing a quote of his own, "Go for the bible and not the tiger!" I believe everyone would remember him by that!
3. Felicia (AN zone)
She is also another strong speaker. Just throw in your towels. Her sermon was quite interesting as she said that if we surrender to God, He will bring us through anything. If God can bring us to the battles, He will bring us through the battles. Well said, Felicia! (:
4. Enoch (AZ zone)
A cell group leader currently, and maybe a preacher in the future! I really liked how he expresses himself and delivers his sermon. (: He stresses on some points and his pace was just alright. He shared on many of his past experiences on how God has changed his life. Our dream is to help others fulfill their dreams. It was truly a powerful message. I saw his cell group there, supporting him too!
